Many of the park improvements affected last fall ~d this past winter probably have been inspected by your family. This spring, we will add a foot Ibridge to the picnic island as well as soccer goals. The _R, amsey Garden Club will also continue ~ork on the beautification project at the berm near the park s entrance. The City is most excited to Jeport that we have received a $5,000 Small Business Administration grant for tree planting in an~ near the park. These new park trees will serve as a "neighborhood arboretum". The trees the grant ~rovides will comprise about 58 in number with more than 44 species. Another element of the grant is a free boulevard tree to the first 30 park perimeter homeowners desiring one[ Th~ only requirement is that you arrange for purchase of an additional tree concurrent with th~ planting of the street tree and that it not be placed immediately south of your home. An energy dtnservation fact sheet is enclosed, which explains all the details. , If you are interestd.,d in participating in this program, you must use the City's vendor, Midwest Landscapes, 15050 93rd Ave. N., Maple Grove, MN 55369, telephone 420-4201. You must purchase your yard. tree and select the City-funded boulevard tree by May 5, 1995, at 5:00 p.m. This is a first come first served program, so please act early. Midwest crews will be planting trees the week of May 1 5, 1995, during business hours. Please make sure that the attached pink flags are in place by Mt y 10th, one in the boulevard and one elsewhere, but not south of the house. Midwest will conu ct Gopher State One Call so that the underground utilities may be located in your yard. The abc ye trees will be warranted by Midwest for one year. You will need to provide watering, etc. and si:atter any residual soil after planting. The final element o~ this project that may be of interest to you is the arboretum concept. Many of the trees to be plant'.ecl in the park will have an information placard next to them with their common and scientific nam{ and perhaps the characteristics of the tree. The City is seeking sponsors for these. Sponsorship! will entail occasional watering of the tree (with a pail from the pond) for the three-year establishment period. Each sponsor will receive recognition on the placard; for instance, sponsored by the SW. ith Family, or sponsored by Jack and Jill. If you are interested in the above, simply drop off a r~ote or call City Hall indicating your interest in sponsoring a tree with your name, address, phor~e number, and the name you wish to have associated with the tree.
