Scenic River § 9.23 <br /> Sign, Advertising A sign which directs attention to a business, commoc~ity, <br />service, activity or entertainment not necessari/y conducted, sold or offered upon the premises <br />where such sign is located. <br /> <br /> Slope The inclination of the namrat surface of the land from the horizontal, <br />usually measured in one of three ways: I) as a railo, the horizontal d/stance to the vertical distance; <br />2) as a percentage, the vertical distance over the horizontal distance; and 3) by degrees, measured <br />from the horizontal to the vertical. <br /> <br /> Steep Slope: Means land where agricultural activity or development is either not <br />recommended or described as poorly suited due to slope steepness and the site's soft <br />characteristics, as mapped and described in available county soil surveys or other technical reports, <br />unless appropriate design and construction techniques and farming practices are used in accordance <br />with the provisions of these regulations. Where specific information is not available, steep slopes <br />are lands having average slopes over 12 percent, as measured over horizontal distances of 50 feet <br />or more, that are not bluffs. <br /> <br /> Structure Any building (including mobile homes) or appurtenance thereto, except <br />aerial or underground utility lines such as sewer, electric, telephone, telegraph or gas lines, <br />including towers, poles, and other supporting appurtenances. <br /> <br /> *Protected waters has been changed to ."Protected Water". All regulations and <br />requirements remain the same, only the names have been changed. <br /> <br /> Substandard Use Any use of shorelands existing prior to the date of enactment <br />of this Section which is permitted within the applicable zoning district but does not meet the <br />minimum lot area and length or water frontage, structure setbacks, or other dimensional standards <br />of this Section. <br /> <br /> Tree Any woody plant that has at least one trunk whose diameter 4 feet above <br />ground is 4" or greater. <br /> <br /> Variance Any modification or variation of official controls where it is determined <br />that, because of hardships, strict enforcement of the official controls is impractical. <br /> <br /> Wetland Any Iow area permanently or seasonally covered with shallow water, <br />including marsh, swamp, bog, wet meadow, slough or intermittent lake or floodway, except any <br />area which is one acre or smaller in size. <br /> <br />Wetland Types <br /> 1. <br /> <br />The soil is seasonally flooded, but during the growing season it is welt <br />drained. Vegetation is dependent on the duration of flooding. Due to <br />the nature of Type I wetlands, the DNR did not identify any within the <br />study area. <br /> <br />Inland Fresh Meadows. The soil usually is without standing water <br />during most of the growing season, but is water logged within at least a <br />few inches of its surface. Vegetation includes grasses, sedges, rushes <br />and various broad-leaved plants. <br /> <br />Inland Shallow Fresh Marshes. The soil is usually water logged during <br />the growing season; often it is covered with as much as 6 inches or <br />more of water. Vegetation includes grasses, bulrushes, spikerushes and <br />various other marsh plants such as cattails, arrow- heads and smart <br />weed. <br /> <br />Inland Deep Fresh Marsh. The soil is covered with 3 to 6 feet or more <br />of water during the growing season. Vegetation includes cattails reeds, <br />bulrushes, spikeru~hes and wild rice. <br /> <br />Inland Open Fresh Marsh. Shallow ponds and reservoirs are included <br />in this type. Water is usually less than 10 feet deep and is fringed by a <br /> <br /> <br />
