I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I

Sul~surface Exploration and Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation
for the Extension of Sewer and Water Trunks to
Service the Ramsey Elementary School Site in
the City of Ramsey, Minnesota

INTRODUCTION

Plans call for the :xtension of municipal sewer and water trunks to the Ramsey Elementary School
in the Southwest. 1/4 of Section 3, Township 32, Range 25. The school is being expanded to
approximately double its capacity. The project includes construction of 4300 feet of 30-inch
sanitary sewer and 3400 feet of 8-inch and 2000 feet of 12-inch watermain.

We propose reconnaissance drilling and routine geotechnical testing that will allow us to
determine subsurface conditions at 14 locations along the planned sewer alignment and at
8 locations along~ the water alignment. Analysis of drilling and testing results, together with
recommendations ~for pipe foundation(s) and dewatering will be provided.

SCOPE OF WORK

We propose to drill a total of 22 borings at locations along the proposed utility alignments. Along
the proposed 30-inch sanitary sewer alignment, 10 deep borings will be advanced to an average
depth of 35 feet u~ing MUD-Rotary Methods, due to the high water table, and four auger probes
will be advanced tO an average depth of 10 feet at selected locations to define the lateral extent and
thickness of organic soils. The eight borings along the proposed municipal watermain alignment
will be drilled to afl average depth of 10 feet. A total of 470 feet of borings will be advanced.
