I I I I I ! I I I AMENDMENT TO UTILITY PERMIT FOR ANOKA MUNICIPAL UTILITY COMPANY iFOR THE INSTALLATION OF UTILITY LINES By: Steven J. Jankowski, City Engineer Background:! CASE At the Novemb~er 7, 1994 meeting, the City Council approved a utility agreement with Anoka Mtmicil~ Utility to install electric power transmission lines from the United Power Association lin_~, located north of 153rd Avenue N.W., to a new substation which is to be constructed north of the Burlington Northern Railroad right-of-way on the Ramsey-Anoka boundary. When the agreement was approved, three potential routes were considered for the transmissioO lines which are identified in Exhibit A. Alternative 3 was selected for this alignment as it Would have the least impact to residential neighborhoods. Since November, discussions have taken place between Anoka and Ramsey City Staff which have rest~lted in consideration of a modified alignment. The attached March 8, 1995 letter of Anok~'s City Manager, Mark Nagel, summarizes the advantages of the new alignment. M~.. Nagel's letter requests that Alternative 4 be added as an alternative transmission lin~ alignment. Anoka Electric Utilities would like to begin land acquisition proceedings and has requested that Route 3B b~ added as an acceptable alternative route alignment. Recommenda~tion: Staff recommends approval of Anoka Electric Utilities to add Alternative 4 as an acceptable alternative transmission line route and authorize the City Attorney to modify the utility agreement accordingly. Council Action: Motion to approve the addition of Alternative 4 as an acceptable transmission line route and authorize the City Attorney to modify the agreement accordingly.
