Schroede~ offered to put the policy in writing and B15~k to the Committee for <br />review. ~ ~ <br />Case #4: Training Policy ~ <br /> <br />City Administrator Schroeder stated that discussions have ensued regarding whether or not <br />staff is receiving adequate training. He presented an exhibit showing the training that has <br />been received J_ and by whom, for the years 1990 through 1993. He stated that his policy is <br />that the training meets organization needs and follows some logical progression; other than <br />that, there is ~o formal training policy. Mr. Schroeder explained that each department <br />submits a fiv~-year training plan. Everyone is allowed to vary; the intent is to think <br />through what ~kills we want everyone to learn. The departments request by class and all <br />requests are re!viewed. He added that in addition, a few thousand dollars (extra) is put into <br />the training bgdget; however, if there are budget cuts as has occurred in the past, the <br />training budgSt is subject to reductions. Mr. Schroeder offered to prepare a written policy <br />to bring back ~or the Committee's review. <br /> <br />Councilmemb~ Zimmerman suggested that each department should get a certain percentage <br />of the training!dollars. <br /> <br />Administrativ~ Services Manager McAloney stated that this would not work, as some <br />departm.en, ts, ~ased on what they do - such as the Police and Fire Departments, require <br />more trmnmg. :. <br /> <br />Motion by <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Motion carrie.
