Schroeder, City Administrator

CASE #

Background:

The City of Anoka has been given a copy of this case.

For many years~ the two cities of Ramsey and Anoka have been discussing the possible
connection of McKinley Street at our mutual border in the industrial area. Attached for
your review, is~a March 1995 Anoka-commissioned Enterprise Industrial Park Traffic
Study and May 1995 letter update. These documents detail that Anoka is concerned about
traffic congestio~ on Thurston Avenue, McKinley Street, and at T.H. #10 and the Vo-tech
frontage road at{.' Thurston Avenue prior to any connection of McKinley Street between
Ramsey and Adoka. The Anoka study has suggested that traffic congestion may well
increase as a result of a McKinley Street connection to Ramsey as our industrial parks
continue to deve!op.
Anoka is also concerned about several other traffic issues within their community with
contributors from outside of town. Much like our concerns with T.H. #10 traffic from Elk
River and else~aihere, Anoka has the Ferry Street Bridge and the Main/169 intersection

which also are o

I believe Anoka
transportation ne
if reconstructior
frame, Anoka w
industrial prope~

,mmuter problems with locally proposed solutions.

Councilmembers and Staff persons are interested in meeting on Ramsey
eds and the McKinley Street connection; however, they are concerned that
i of downstream intersections is necessitated or moved to an earlier time
ill be left with the bill. They also are concerned about the platting of our
ty and proposed building standards, as well.

To discuss theselconcerns and possible solutions, Mark Nagel, Anoka City Manager, and I
have suggested h joint meeting of the two Councils. If you agree, please come to the
meeting with sothe suggested dates.
· i
Council ActJo~n:

Suggest two or three dates to meet with the Anoka City Council.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
City Manager, City of Anoka

CC: 05/23/98

/jmt
