I
I

I
I
I

I
I

I
I
!
I
I
I
I
.I

March 1995

Enterprise Park Traffic Study

Anoka, Minnesota

Background

The area which now comprises the Anoka Enterprise Park Industrial
Development Area was. relatively isolated-with access only indirectly
to major roadways. A residential development is bet-ween the
Enterprise Park area and Highway 47. Sunfish Lake Blvd. was quite
far west and out of the way for most of the trips which the Enterprise
area would generate. Highway 47 and Sunfish Lake Blvd. were the
only two Burlington Northern railroad crossings in the area and the
only connections to Highway 10. Figure 1 shows the location of
Enterprise Park and the surrounding street system.

To provide additional access into the area, two major roadways were
developed. County Road 116 was extended across the Rum Kiver
and connected to Bunker Lake Blvd. This prpvides an alternate to
Highway 24.2/County Road 14 as an east/west roadway across
mu.ch of Anoka County. It provides a continuous route connecting
Lexington Avenue, Highway 65, Hanson Blvd., Round Lake Blvd.,
I-Iighway 47 and Ramsey Blvd.

The other major road project was the constx'uction of Thurston
A. venue from Highway 10 to County Road 116. This involved
consb-uction of a bridge over the Burlington Northern Railroad
tracks (the only grade separated railroad crossing between the Rum
River and Elk River). This new bridge and road connection to
H. ighway 10 provided direct access to Enterprise Park. County Road
116 and Thurston Avenue are also shown in Figure 1.

The original concept was also to extend Thurston Avenue north to
Nowthen Blvd. and an ultimate connection to St. Francis Blvd. This
v-as a concept and was never formalized (See Figure 2).
