CASE #
SCHEDULE DATE FOR CHARTER AMENDMENT ELECTION
By: Ryan R. Schroeder, City Administrator
Background:
As Council is avi e, the City was presented with a petition to amend the City Charter. An
election must be eld on or before August 21. There has been money budgeted for election
costs, however, ere is not a sufficient amount budgeted in this non - election year to cover
the total cost. Besides staff time, some of the costs include, wages for approximately 20
election judges, host of printing ballots, publishing notices, etc.
Included with this case is a copy of the article that was published in the Ramsey Resident
regarding the proposed Charter amendment.
Staff is requesting Council schedule the date of the election for August 15. This allows for
the 45 -day writt n notice to Anoka County and does not cause any of the City meeting
dates to be reschiduled. This date also allows for City Hall to be open the Saturday before
(August 12) the election and also the night before (August 14) to accept absentee ballots.
We are still awaiting confirmation that all polling places will be available on that date. If
they are not, we ll advise you of the alternatives.
Council Action:
Motion to scheddle Tuesday, August 15, 1995 as the date for the special election. Polls
will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
t _
F`
Reviewed by:
City Administrator
Finance Officer
Elections Coordiniator
CC: 06/27/9)
rmt
T
J
f
Iq
