September 5, 1995

MINNESOTA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Mr. Ryan R. Schroeder
City Administrator
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W.
Ramsey, MN 55303

Re:

MHS Grant No. 003-95-i845B
District School//28/Ramsey Town Hall

Dear Mr. Schroeder:

It has come to our attention that plans for the restoration of the District School//28/Ramsey
Town Hall 'which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places are being re-examined.
As you 'know this project was to be supported in part with a $16,000 state bond-funded grant
awarded to the City of Ramsey by the Minnesota Historical Society last spring.

Last week I received a copy of an article that appeared in the local newspaper on August 25.
The article outlined four possible scenarios, the first being to proceed with plans to renovate
the building, the scenario that our office, of course, would prefer. If the city decides to
decline the grant awarded or takes action that would render the property ineligible for state
bond-funded grant assistance, we need to know this information immediately so that the
funds can be made available to another applicant in the next grants cycle.

The city's application indicated a strong commitment to moving ahead with plans to restore
the historic school. Please advise us immediately if the city's plans have changed. I would
urge you to find a solution, with or without assistance from the Society's grants program,
that would ensure the preservation of this important resource for the enjoyment of future
generations. If we can be of assistance as you explore the various options, please do not
hesitate to contact me at (612) 296-5471.

I
I
I
I
I

!
!

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Britta L.
