Chairperson Sto~fen stated that the City of Coon Rapids just went through such a change
and he would speak to a member of their Charter Commission for more information.

Commission Nelson speculated if it would be beneficial to contact other Charter
Commissions from other cities.

Commissioner Donovan felt that it would be beneficial for the Charter Commission to have
as much inform _ation as possible so if in the future it appears them is a call for a change, the
Charter CommisSion will be better informed to make a decision.

Mr. Schroeder and some members of the Charter Commission offered to contact different
sources to receive more information on the ward system. This information will be brought
back to the next Charter meeting for further discussion.

COMMISSION INPUT

1) Year-end Activity Letter to Judge Gibbs

Chairperson Steffen read the letter to Judge Gibbs reporting what the Commission had
accomplished for the year 1993.

2) Meeting Schedule for 1994

Consensus of the Commission was to change the meeting schedule to January, April, July
and October. Tl~e day would still be the third Thursday and the time would be 7:30 p.m.
This would eliminate the meeting in December when schedules appear more busy but it
would allow forilextra meetings at the end of the year should an issue arise that needs a
discussion/decision prior to the new year. The Charter Commission's request to change
the meeting schedule will be on Council's Consent Agenda on January 18, 1994·
Providing Coun~l approves this change, the next Charter Commission meeting will be held
on January 20, 1'994.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner Nelson and seconded by Commissioner Swokowski to adjourn
the meeting.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Steffen, Commissioners Nelson, Swokowski,
Donovan, Kiefer and Mare. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Goode, Netzloff
and Spain Brist.

The regular meeting of the Charter commission adjourned at 8:23 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

City Administrator

Charter

Commission/December 16, 1993
