The Ramsey Business Letter RAMSEY BUSINESS NEWSLETTER This is the fa'st issue of a periodic City of Ramsey business newsletter. This project is being started because the City Council is focusing its attention on the growth and development of the business community. This focus has resulted in the purchase of over 100 acres of prime commercial/ industrial property. This property will be used for the development of a high quality industrial park area. The City has completed the construction of two roadways to service a portion of this property and h as already sold offfour lots from its holdings. The combination of this property purchase and business visitations has led to an increase in the number of commercial/industrial properties developed. Along with 1995 and currently pending projects, the City has benefitted by the construction of the Rarnsey Commercial Park Business incubator of over 26,000 square feet, with two future phases to bring it to over 70,000 square feet and the Detail Tool and Engineering building of 13,000 square feet in 1994. The long- term outlook for additional construction is also very strong with the City currently discussing development opportunties with additional business concerns. This development will be anchored by the construction oftheAnokaElectric Cooperative Headquarters in the west and the new Business Park in the east. Mayoral Minute Welcome to the first Ramsey Business Letter. This document is completed by the City of Ramsey to help bridge the gap between the City and Local Businesses. In the past year, the City has seen many changes, including the election of new members to the City Council, the beginning of the wide-scale development of the City's commercial/industrial area, and the continued growth of existing businesses. This development will lead to the ground breaking of over 300,000 square feet of industfial/comercial building space during 1995. Included in the above are Anoka Electric Cooperative (AEC) Headquarters, Carbon Product Technology, Command Corporation, Rum River Plaza Expansion, and Wendells, Inc. Since 1991, business expansion will create an additional tax base of over $18 million for the City of Ramsey. This development has also led to the creation of additional jobs in the City. This is illustrated by Wendell's hiring 7 new employees from the area even before the new facility opened in July. This trend is one of the goals of the new development in the City, to allow for area residents to have living- wage jobs close to home. This growth should continue as the City has purchased industrial property located east of S un fish Lake Blvd and south of Industry Avenue (CR gl 16). This ownership allows the City to develop unique ways to assist in the construction of new facilities. The land available for development has been expanded by the approval of the AEC Energy Park to be located to the south of the AEC Headquarters at the corner of Ramsey Blvd. and County Road gl 16. Together, these two business parks encompass the majority of the area located between the City of Anoka and Ramsey Blvd., south of County Road #116. (continued page 2)
