RAMSEY'S ENVIRONMENTAL EXPO AND TREE SALE

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Tree Sale and the 6th anniversary of the
Ramsey Environmental Expo.
EXPO '95 will celebrate the official opening of the Ramsey School's Environmental
Learning Area. The E.L.A. is 15 acres of woods, wetlands, and prairie. With the help of
teachers, students, residents and local business people, trails have been cleared and chipped. Also
with funding from Anoka Electric and help from Tree Trust, signs, bird houses and feeders wilt be
installed.
This year's events will be on Saturday, April 29,1995, at the Ramsey Elementary School,
15000 Nowthen Boulevard N.W. The Expo will run form 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the Tree
Sale starting at about 7:00 a.m. We are hoping that this will be the Regional Arbor Day
Celebration.
Activities will include seedling give away (one per family member), the grand opening
ceremony, tree plantings, demonstrations of pruning, grafting and planting techniques,
entertainment, the exhibit area which wilt include everything from science projects to Garden clubs
and tom of the trail given by students.
We will have two classes the week before the Expo. The fn'st class "The Right Tree in the
Right Place" will be held at 7:00 p.m., April 25, 1995, at City Hall down stairs in the Senior
Center. This class will feature Anoka County Master Gardeners. They will talk about how to
select trees, plant trees, care for trees, and what trees will be best in the sandy soils of Ramsey.
There will also be time to have your questions answered. This class is perfect for everyone that
plans on buying trees at the TREE SAI.R.
The other class will be on "Landscaping Your Yard." This class will be given buy a
landscape architect from Tree Trust at 7:00 p.m. on April 27, 1995, at the City Hall in the Senior
Center. It is meant for both new home owners and anyone interested in landscaping their yards.
This class was done last year and was very successful.
Both classes are FREE. There may be material for sale.
We need to know about how many people plan on attending. If you would like to
participate, please contact Paul at 753-5412. Please leave a message with which class(s) and how
many will attenck
We realize that not all children in Ramsey attend Ramsey Elementary, but we would like
everyone in the City to be able to participate in the activities. So we would like to invite any
person, family or group to join us.
We will accept any science project, scout projects, family project, or group project. They
can be large or small in side or outside. All we ask is that they have an environmental theme and
that we know that you are coming!!!
We will be hanging posters throughout the lunch room and gym, so get creative and bring
one in.
Drawings will be held and prizes given away. Any Ramsey citizen participating in the
Expo will be eligible for the drawing. To have your name entered, please submit the following
form by April 1, I995.
Hope to see you there!!

Sincerely,
Paul Couture
Expo Chairperson
