CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Topic: Annual Game Fair Event

By: Sylvia Frolik, Community Development Director

Background:

In 1985, the City issued a Conditional Use Permit to Charles Delaney of Armstrong Kennels for the
annual Game Fair event. The event draws more and more people each year and this year I received
some comments oi' concern from Police Chief Jim Way and Public Works Director Dean Kapler. The
concerns relate to the following:

· Parking problems
· Peddlers on the boulevards
Pedestrian traffic
· Increased vehicle traffic in the area
· Motor vehicle accidents
· Thefts
· Noise complaints
· Medicals
· Reduced police coverage for the rest of the City during Game Fair hours
· Change in work hours for officers to provide coverage
· Public works man hours required for erecting and removal of 'no parking' signs in the area
· Public works man hours required for cleaning the Central Park parking lot (terms of
conditional use permit all0~ the use of this parking lot for patrons of the Game Fair)

Given the issues raised by the Police Chief and Public Works Director, Staff'is requesting that the
subject of the Game Fair be placed on a City Council Work Session agenda for review and discussion.

Attachments: ;:~'

Current Game Fair Conditional Use Permit.

Action Statement:
There is language in the City Code that enables City Council the authority to amend the terms ora
conditional use permit. Action will be based on your discussion.

CCWS: 10.07.03
