Case #5.1: Consider Park and Recreation Commission Involvement at Happy Days <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood discussed that the Commission would like to get more involved in <br />other things such as Happy Days and turned it over to Commissioner Chubb for discussion. <br />Commissioner Chubb stated there are two areas that the Happy Days Committee is looking for <br />the Commissions help with. One is assistance with the parade set up and line up and the other is <br />bingo. The Commission discussed volunteer groups for example the girl scouts to assist with <br />monitoring the parade event. <br />Chairperson Shryock offered some Boy Scout names for the Happy Days Committee to contact. <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br />Kotchi Prosper, 15540 Iodine Street NW, Ramsey, the Traveling Director for the Northern <br />Lights Soccer Club. Mr. Prosper was present to speak on behalf of the Northern Lights Soccer <br />Club to discuss if there has been any progress of a building at Elmcrest Park. <br />Parks Supervisor River discussed the CIP and is shown as a placeholder at $500,000 and sanitary <br />sewer needs to be placed there and the other separate project is the play ground element. He <br />discussed a partial match for use with park trust fund dollars and we are looking for a community <br />match to that. <br />Park Supervisor Riverblood discussed the benefit to the local retailers when a tournament is <br />played and what the community payback is. <br />Park Supervisor Riverblood also discussed the best way to start the process is for the residents to <br />speak out in support of a new building as part of park dedication monies. <br />Commissioner Bennett agrees and as a Commission they are in support of this We need to be <br />creative with the use of volunteers and the Northern Lights Soccer club. <br />There was discussion of the entire Anoka Ramsey Youth Association participation in the <br />maintenance of this building. <br />Mr. Kotchi discussed as of right now they host two tournaments and with a building it would <br />attract more tournaments out to this field. <br />Chairperson Shryock discussed the more state wide tournaments that•we can attract and how it <br />would help our future economic growth. <br />Park Supervisor Riverblood discussed the possibility of creating a task force in support of <br />encouraging this issue to continue. <br />The consensus of the Commission is to bring this back for discussion in August as a report from <br />Northern Light Soccer. <br />Park and Recreation Commission /July 14, 2011 <br />Page2of3 <br />
