This plan primarily deals ~dth tree preservation and esmblJshment. The tree
make-up and age gradation of the proposed Chestnut Ridge is representative of Ramsey's finest
forest types.

The prima_D/goal of tree preservation is not only protecting the maximum amount of high value
trees, but ensuring that those trees are still living ),ears after the homes m built.

The landscape plan must be approved by staff concurrent with the grading plan,
and prior to disruption of any trees.

This is done to ev~.luate the effects of proposed grades on the trees, wkich has a bem"/ng on wh/ch
mees may be impacted. The CSty staff is available to assist'you with meeting the landscape plan
requkemenm. Staff feels the most economical wa), to address the tree concerns is to locate the
~pprox~rnate location of the front lot comers with lath and indicate any s~ificam grade changes on
sam:. This will allow us to help you determine the treed areas that are reasonable to r]rotect. The
next step would be to inst~ll snow fences around the dri¢ I/nos of those trees. St.~.tdng the lot
comers ,~dl] also allow us to mark the trees to be salvaged (mechanically transplanted), which in
turn provides a clear picture of what "goes" to the person responsible for the clearing and
grubbing.

Relative to the tree moving, sr.a.ff will be requiting relo:arion of select specimen trees in the project
area, most notable, Hackben-y. This indigenous tree is hardy, easily move. d, under-represemed in
Ramsey, and quite stately when mature. As yon rna), know, in 1994 the City intends to develop a
very signifi:ant rr~ system adjacent and entirely accessible from Chesmut Ridge. This corr/dor
may be a location for the trees to ~ moved. Our goal is not to complicate your development
process, but to ensure a high quality subdivision for the benefit of ML Much of Wood Pond HU2s
that leads u¢ to Chesmut Ridge was wooded similarly to your properb,. Tne few trees that remain
have been t~llecl around and otherwise neglected; some will die. The City wants to ensure this is
nor the case with Chestnut Ridge.
