Community Development Director Frolik replied that the Horse Commission currently meets on
an as-needed basis and acts as an advisory board to the Planning Commission.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson reviewed the administration budget explaining that there
were not new porsonnel requests except that staff would like to terminate their IS support
contract with LOGIS and hire an IT Manager. Currently it costs the City around $58,000 a year
for two days a week. The IT needs continue to grow at City Hall and the Police Department. In
addition to canceling the contract with LOGIS, the City also has an arrangement with Gov Docs
to supply City documents on the internet and with the new document imaging system the City
has implemented they seem to be duplicating the process.

Mayor Gamec inquired as to the what the cost to the City would be for hiring an IS Manager.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson explained that the city of Chaska has a salary range of
$53,400 to $69,300 and the city of New Brighton has a salary range of $64,000 to $70,512.

Councihnember Elvig inquired if LOGIS would continue to support the software the City
currently utilizes from LOGIS.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied yes.

Councilmember Kurak inquired if the City would still be able to keep the current website design
if they cancelled the contract with Gov Docs.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied yes.

Mayor Gamec stated that he would be in favor adding the IT position. He inquired as to when
staff would be looking to recruit for the position.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied that staff would want to bring someone on board as
soon as possible.

Councilmember Kurak inquired if they would be looking to start advertising for the position right
away.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied that staff would start the process of getting a job
description together and if the Council directed staff to do so they would start the advertising
process.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson reviewed the remainder of the administration budget.

Councilmember Elvig expressed concern over the cost of the copier maintenance contract.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied that she would look into that further.

City Council Work Session/October 1, 2003
Page 3 of 8
