Priority arterial street lighting consists of <br />lights placed atikey intersections and other priority locations within the City. The chief benefit from this <br />type of lightinlg shall be for improving safety at the intersection and as a navigation aid to motorists. <br />Beca~use of the!general nature of the benefits from this type of lighting, it shall be financed through thc <br />City s General ~und. <br /> <br />Subdivision lig[hting is the second classification of street lighting. The major benefits from this type of <br />lighting is inc,'cased pedestrian safety, particularly in areas without sidewalks, and increased crime <br />prevention. THese benefits occur chiefly to residents of the subdivision, who should be involved both in <br />the decision to ~rovidc such street lighting and thc financing of thc system. <br /> [ <br />Prioril¥ Arle4,rial Slree! Lighting: <br />Priority arterial!street lighting locations shall be Iimited to intersections at the state trunk highways, county <br />roads and arterial city streets, Sequential priority levels shall be established which shall generally utilize <br />traffic volume~s as thc chief criteria. However, other criteria affecting priority shall include a) high <br />frequency of n.~ghttime accidents; b) marked pedestrian crossings at schools and parks; and c) unusual <br />sight limitatiocs. The City Engineering and Police Departments shall jointly establish, maintain and <br />per odically review the locations which shall be classified in the following priority levels: <br /> <br /> Pric~rity A - Very Much Needed <br /> PriOrity B Needed <br /> Prickity C - Desirable <br /> Pri0~rity D - Eligible <br /> <br />Arterial streetilighting shall consist of economical wood or fiberglass standards equipped with high <br />pressure sodi0m lamps and cobra head luminaries fitted with a fiat glass lens. Other technical <br />specifications ~hall be determined by the City Engineer. <br />Subdivision ~treCt Lighting: <br />This type of s~eet lighting shall be provided at regular intervals of approximately 200 to 300 feet along all <br /> <br /> <br />
