CASE 41 REPORT FROM FIRE BOARD By: Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator Background: The Ramse7 Fire Board conducted a special meeting on Wednesday, August 1'7, 1994. The following issues were discussed: 1 ) Procass for Filling the Position of Fire Chief The F, ire Board reviewed the information presented (also included in this agenda) and voted to table action on this issue until a determination can be made on the Assistant Fire Chief position. Ms. McAloney will contact the LeagU~e of Minnesota Cities to see if it is possible that this position can be termed Temporary Work Assignment. It was the overall feeling that if the Assistant Chief position could-be a limited term position, there would be more i~ncentive in the Department to work toward that position. Members of the l::~e~ Department at the meeting were comfortable with the balance of the proposed procedure. The Fire Board requested additional support docum~entafion from the League of Minnesota Odes. No Council Action necessary. 2) Posting for Position of Fire Chief This issue was also tabled until the process for filling the position is agreed upon. No Council Action Necessary. 3) Review :Recommendations of the Interviewing Panel The Fire Board voted to recommend that Council approve offering the positiom of volunteer Fire Fighter to Kelly Neameyer and John Grewe and that they proceed with pre-employment examinations. Motion to approve offering the position of volunteer F/re Fighter to Kelly Neameyer and John Grewe andiauthorizing proceeding with pre-employment examinations. A night-time F/re Fighter has given a verbal resignation and the Fire Board voted to l'ecommend that Council approve pulling one name from the top of the night4fime availability list to f'fll the position. Motion to approve pulling one name from the top of the night-time availability list to fill the position made vacant by a resignation.
