The Fire Board noted that a previous member of the Fire Department who <br />was injured in October 1990 has been found "fit" to serve on the Fire <br />Department again. He will be rejoining the Department on September 7, <br />1994. <br /> <br />No Council Action Necessau'. <br /> <br />4) Purchasing Two Fire Department Pagers <br /> <br />The Fire Board voted to recommend that the Finance Committee discuss and <br />recommend that Council approve the purchase of two Fire Department <br />pagers at an approximate total cost of $900. The Department does not have <br />a sufficient number of operating pagers for all Staff. This issue will be <br />acted upon during the "Report from Finance Committee" case. <br /> <br />No Council Action Necessars~,. <br /> <br />5) Fire Depamnent Driving Policy <br /> <br />The Fire Board reviewed the Driving Policy and recommended an <br />amendment to the section entitled Second Occurrenc~ It should read as <br />follows: The Fire Fighter will receive a second written warning. The Fire <br />Fighters will also be restricted to responding form the station only after the <br />first two units have left, for a period of' 30 calendar days. The Fire <br />Boarri voted to recommend that the City Council approve the Fire <br />Department Driving Policy, as amended, and that it be placed in the City of <br />Ramsey Policy Manual. <br /> <br />Motion to approve the Fire Department Driving Policy, as .amended, and have it placed in <br />the City of Rarnsey Policy Manual. <br /> <br />6) Request for Purchase of Equipment <br /> <br />The Fire Department requested new helmets for each of its members as the <br />Department's Safety Officer Steve Wilson deems their present helmets <br />unsafe. He bases his opinion on the fact that these helmets have not held up <br />under exn:eme heat and that they are no longer OSHA certified for a new <br />purchase. The Department can, however, tegally continue to use the <br />existing helmets until a new order is received. The cost of each helmet, <br />including the necessary reflective lettering, is approximately $100 per <br />helmet for each of its 25 Staff, for a total estimated cost of $2,500.
