Beth As'faN
5950 142nd A~,enue NW
Ramse3.,, MN ~5303
(612) 427-7931 W 624-7525

August 24, 1994

Kay McAloney.
Administrative !Sen,ices Manager
Ramsey Munic~al Center
15153 Nowthea Blvd. NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

Dear Kay,

I am writing in response Io the vaeanc3.' on the Park and Recreation Commission that was recently
advertised in th{ Ramsey newsleuer. Currently, I am working at the University of Minnesota m thc
Department of~ecreational Sports. My job is thal of Asso:iate Facilities Program Director in which I am
responsible for ~heduling various recreational facilities within our department, special user groups.
athletics and th~ Kinesiolog).' department. In addition, I plan all special events which require use of our
facilities and su~rvise approximately 30 student employees who assist in the operations of the facilities.
have been with ~e University of Minnesota since Janua~., 1993.

Prior to workingat the Universfly, I worked £or the Cin.' o£Rochester Par~ and Recreation Department as
the Director of ,~dapfive Recreation for 6 1/2 years. My primary duties included planning and
implementing a yarien., of recreational programs for persons with special needs. This involved
programming £o~ youth and adults and often involved integrating them successfulb' into current
recreational pro, ams. In addition, I assisted in a:cessibility planmng £or the parks, recreation center and
the trail system. "

Mx'. ~ucation co~is~s o£ a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation and a master's degree in Human
Performance. B~th o£ which I ol~tained at the Universi~' ofWiscormin - LaCrosse.
The reason for my interest in being on the Park and Recreation Commission are three-£old. First,. ~
believe that Park~: and Recreational programs greatly effect the commtmi~, and are an invaluable source to
kids and adults alike. I grew up enjo.x6ng the park system and one of the reasons we moved to Rams%;
was the growth a~d development taldng Olace mxd t~e preservation of wetland area. Seconclly, as a
resident of the co?amtmit3', I would like to be a part of its continued growth and development ensuring
that parks and tr~i.'ls take a prioriq' in the planning and that there is an actual plan m pro~ess. Thirdly,
believe that my p,}evious ex"perience in Rochester working with the Park and Recreation Department as ma
employee and au~ncling Park Commission meetings, has proxfded me with knowledge in the policies and
procedures in the~development of par'ks and recreational programming.

In closing, I beh~e that public serxfice is a responsibilin., that all residents have in ensuring that the
communiq, in w~ch the)' live continues to be one which is desirable for al_ll to live in. I look forward to
the opportunity t~ serve this commumt3'. ' '.

Sincerely,

Beth A. Asfahl
