CASE

SELECTION OF ALIGNMENT OF SUNWOOD DRIVE N.W.
By: Steven Jankowsk[, City Engineer

Background:

The City's thoWughfare plan identifies a collector street between Trunk Highway #47 and
County Road ~116 which has been identified as Sunwood Drive N.W. As you know,
segments of th~s collector street have been consumcted in the Wood Pond Hills and Sunny
Ponds subdivisions. Because of the rapid urban development of the area north of County
Road #116 betaveen County Road #5 and #57, there is an increasing need for this collector
to be constructed. Hakanson Anderson Associates Inc. has been retained to identify a route
for this collector study and proceed with final design of the segment between its current
terminus in V~ood Pond Hills and County Road #57 so that it can be constructed in late
1994. Constrgction of this roadway will need to traverse wetlands. In addition, the
alignment of the roadway will have an impact on the potential for residential development in
areas constrain.ed by existing development and topographic features. For this reason,
several altem~ve routes are being considered. Pete Raatikka of Hakanson Anderson will
be at the meeting to present these alternatives and review the relative advantages,
disadvantages~ and costs associated with each route.

Staff Recommendation:

Staffs desired ~action is to obtain a recommendation from this Committee and subsequently
from the City ~2ouncil on a selected route for the roadway. This step is necessary so that
environmentallpermits can be sought in time to construct the road this fall.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend to City Council a selected route forl Sunwood Drive N.W.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer

R&B: 01/18/94

/jmt

Copies also distributed to:
City Administrator
