CASE #,.~

STORM WATER STUDY
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

The most current storm drainage plan was prepared nearly fifteen years ago. In 1994, the City
invested $30,000 to obtain two foot contour topographic mapping for the southeastern quadrant of
the City. This is}he area of the City that is rapidly urbanizing, and it is necessary that planning
anticipate the storrn water needs of this area. The topographic information provides a significant
tool for developing a sound drainage plan.

It is anticipated this study will establish major interceptor drains, identify allowable building
elevations adjacen[ to natural wetlands and ponding areas, develop a capital improvement program,
and suggest financing mechanisms for implementing the CIP.

r
A budget allocation of $20,000 has been requested for 1995 and the initial costs of this study will
be financed with (J°mmunity Development Block Grant funds.

Recommendations:

At this time, it isi necessary to initiate this study by authorizing requests for proposals from
engineering firms.

Committee ActiOn:

Motion to recommend that City Council authorize Staff to initiate the Storm Water Study by
authorizing requests for proposals from engineering firms.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
City Engineer
Finance Officer

RB:I 2/13/94

/ccr
