Is it a fundraising ride, a ride to raise <br />awareness about a particular issue, or a ride to enjoy peak <br />fall colors? Is the event exclusively for bicyclists? <br />Select a route of appropriate length and difficulty for the <br />expected bicyclist. This may be based on the theme. Try to <br />begin and end at a location that offers some advantage to <br />riders and local groups. A restaurant might be happy to <br />offer a registration table and restrooms if it's the official <br />place to eat a biker friendly breakfast. If it's a fundraising <br />ride, consider ending at a place special to the cause: a <br />hospital, park, or library. Or end at an event where <br />bicyclists can join the crowd, like a harvest festival or <br />concert. <br />Find out what kinds of permission and support you'll need. <br />Some of these might be: <br />Permits <br />Road closings <br />Road markings <br />Additional signage <br />Police, security, or medical back up <br />Calculate the cost. You may need money for: <br />Registration <br />Permits <br />Refreshments <br />Space <br />Promotion <br />Miscellaneous supplies: nametags, pens, <br />Signage <br />Bike maintenance tools <br />Shuttles <br />Toilets <br />Website <br />Set up a method of communication. How do volunteers <br />communicate?
