Beth Asfahl
5950 142nd Avenue NW
Ramse3,, MN 55303
(612) 427-7931 W624-7525

August 24, 1994

Kay McAloney
Administrative Ser~qces Manager
Ramsey Municipal Center
15153 Nouahen Blvd. NW
Rarusey, IVIN 55303

Dear Kay,

I am writing in response to the vaean~' on the Park and Recreation Commission that was recentiy
advertised in the Ramsey newsletter:' Currently, I am working at the University of Minnesota in the
Department of Recreational Sports. My job is that of Associate Facilities Program Director in which I am
responsible for scheduling various recreational facilities within our department, special user groups,
athletics and the Kinesiology department. In add/tion, I plan ail special events which require use of our
facilities and supervise approximately 30 student employees who assist in the operations of the facilities. I
have been with the University of Minnesota since January 1993.

Prior to working at the University, I worked for the City of Rochester Parks and Recreation Department as
the Director of Adaptive Recreation for 6 1/2 years. My primary duties included planning and
implementing a variety of recreational programs for persons wis special needs. This involved
progrsmming for youth and adults and often involved integrating them successfully into current
recreational programs. In add/lion, I assisted in accessibility plarfifing for the parks, recreation center and
the trail system.

My education consists of a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation and a master's degree in Human
Performance. Both of which I obtained at the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse. --'

The reason for my interest in being on the Park and Recreation Commission are three-fold First, !
~lieve tlmt Parks and Recreational programs greatly effect the commumty and are an invaluable source to
kids and adults alike. I grew up enjoying the park system and one of the reasons we moved to Ramsey
~a~as the growth and development ink/ag place and the preserwation of wet,nd area. Secondly, as a
resident of the community, I would like to be a part of its continued growth and development ensuring
ttmt parks and trails take a priority in the planning and that. there is an, actual plan in progress. Third/y, I
beheve that my previons experience in Rochester working with the Park and Recreation Department as an
employee and _n,ending Park Commission meetings, has provided me with knowled~ge in the policies and
procedures in the development of parks and recreational programming.

In closing, I beheve that public service is a responsibility that all residents have in ensuring that the
community in which they live continues to be one which is desirable for all to live in, I look forward to
the opportuni~ to sen,e this comml.mity.

Sincerely,

Beth A. Asfahl
