Curmnlly, 1 am working at the University of Minnesota in the
Department of Recreational Sports. My job is that of Associate Facilities Program Director in which I am
responsible for scheduling various recreational facilities within our department, special user groups,
athletics and the Kinesiotog).' department. In addition, 1 plan all special events which require use of our
facilities and supervise approximately 30 student employees who assist in the operations of the facilities. I
have been with the UniversiB, of Minnesota since ,lanuary 1993.

Prior to wor 'king at the UniversiB', ]' worked for the CiD' of Rochester Parks and Recreation Dcparm~ent as
the Director of Adaptive Recreation for 6 1/2 years. My primau, duties included planning and
implementing a varie~, of recreational programs for persons xxdth special needs. Tkis involved
programming for youth and adults and often involved integrating them successfully into current
recreational programs. In addition, I assisted in accessibiliD, planmn.g for the parks, recreation center and
the trail s-3'stem. '" '

My education consists of a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation and a master's degree in Human
Performance. Both of which I obtained at the Universit).' of Wisconsin - LaCrosse.

The reason for my interest in being on the Park and Recreation Conunission are tlrree-fold. First~ I
believe that Parks and Recreational programs greatly effect the commumB' and are an invaluable source to
k/ds and adults alike. I grew up enjo3dng the park system and one of the reasons we moved to Ramsey
was the growth and development taking place and the preservation of wetland area. Secondly? as a
resident of the community, I would like to be a part of its continued growth and development ensuring
that parks and trails take a prioriB, in the planning and that there is an actual plan in progress. Thirdly. I
believe that my previous experience in Rochester work.lng with the Park and Recreation Deparm~ent as an
employee and auending Park Commi. ssion meetings, has provided me with 'knowledge in the pohcies and
procedures in the development of parks and recreational progranuning.

In closing, I believe that public sen,ice is a responsibiliB' that all residents have in ensuring that the
community in which the)' live continues to be one wlrich is desirable for al__!l to live in. I look fonvard to
the oppormnit).' to sen'e this community.

Sincerely,

Beth A. Asfahl
