WARD SYSTEM VERSUS AT LARGE <br />By: Jo Thieling, Recording Secretary <br /> <br />CASE 1 <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Charter ~ommission discussed the ward versus the at large Council system at its June, <br />September ahd December meetings. A questionnaire asking the City's residents to <br />comment on ~he ward versus at large system had been published in the October Ramsey <br />Resident. At[the December meeting, the results of this questionnaire were discusseck The <br />survey remm~ were not overwhelming, however, the comments did suggest that something <br />other than th4 at large Council system should be discussed. Consensus of the Commission <br />.w.,as that the i~;sue warranted more discussion, however, the feeling was maintained that "if <br />it s not broke~n, don't fix it". <br /> <br />The CommisSion felt they needed more information regarding the pros and cons of both <br />systems. Cisy Administrator Schroeder and some members of the Charter Commission <br />offered to coat,act different sources to receive more information on the ward system. <br /> [ <br />Chairperson Steffen has invited Mr. Larry Johnson, a Charter Commission member for the <br />City of Coon;Rapids, to be present at this meeting.
