URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY CHALLENGE GRANT <br />By~ James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator <br /> <br />CASE <br /> <br /> Background: ~. <br /> <br /> The City of Ram~ey applied for and received an Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Grant, <br /> in the amount of ~4,000, for 1994. This grant was written to accomplish the following goals: <br /> <br /> 1) Computefi~zed base map of the City <br /> 2) Overlay showing City tree cover <br /> 3) Apply tre~/cover and inventory data to enhance current programs <br /> 4) Develop 4tree conservation ordinance with reforestation fund <br /> 5) Outline bqjth a short and long-range plan for tree planting in the City <br /> 6) Develop tl~e capability to do site specific recommendations <br /> <br /> In addition to th~se goals, the City will also be acquiring the ability to update existing maps, <br /> including zoning,ias-builts, shoreland, and wetland maps. <br /> <br />The City negotia~ted an amendment to the land use comprehensive plan work plan with RLK <br />Associates in order to conduct the work contemplated within the grant program. They have <br />provided the City!with a proposal indicating a cost of $5,000 to provide us with the required maps <br />outlined in the grhnt application. The consultants have also reviewed the use of the information <br />from Anoka Cour ty GIS and provided that review in their proposal. Attached for your review is <br />the following info~,mation: <br /> <br /> a) Proposal fl)r mapping from RLK Associates <br /> b) Grant appl ication <br /> <br />Based upon the re~'iew of the grant application and the proposal, it would appear that $3,000 of the <br />cost could be fum=ed through the grant and $2,000 as the required in cash contribution from the <br />City under the gnint agreement as previously approved.
