CITY OF RAMSEY POSITION ANALYSIS <br />Position Title: Police Chief <br />Department: Police <br />Position Title of Immediate Supervisor: City Administrator <br />FLSA STATUS: Exempt <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: <br />Perform administrative and managerial work involving the protection and safety of the <br />community through enforcement of statutes and ordinances, dealing with and prevention <br />of criminal acts, preserve the peace, investigate crime, provide emergency services, and <br />perform related duties as required. <br />RESPONSIBILITIES: <br />A. Plan, organize, direct and review the operation of the police department. <br />B. Supervise the department staff. <br />C. Develop and recommend a police department budget program. <br />D. Maintain effective community relations. <br />E. Prepare proposed city ordinances for council consideration. <br />F. Represent the City and police department in meetings and on commissions and boards. <br />G. Perform other duties as assigned (within the ability and resources of the Police Chief) at <br />the verbal or written direction of the City Administrator. <br />TASKS RELATED TO RESPONSIBILITIES: <br />A. Plan, organize, direct and revie w the operation of the police department. <br />1. Develop and oversee special programs including crime prevention and drug <br />demand reduction programs; implement, monitor and evaluate plans and <br />programs. <br />2. Establish and oversee policies, procedures, standards and practices for the <br />department to ensure a safe and efficient operation. <br />3. Assist other agencies such as the county, area communities, and the Minnesota <br />State Highway Patrol as needed. <br />4. Determine department equipment needs; acquire equipment as needed including <br />vehicles, operational equipment, weapons and office supplies. <br />5. Plan and arrange for maintenance of vehicles and equipment. <br />6. Determine design and layout of department offices and work space. <br />Police Chief <br />Page 1 of 5 <br />
