B. Oversees the operation of all units within the Police Department. <br />1. Plans, directs and coordinates workloads of the various <br />units within the police department. <br />2. Assign officers or clerical personnel to direct attention to <br />observed conditions that require police action. <br />C. Assists the Chief of Police in the preparation and administration of <br />the budget. <br />1. Participates in the budget process to secure funds for <br />police accounts. <br />2. Monitors account activity within the police budget. <br />3. Assists in determining funding needs for policing functions. <br />D. Reviews and revises policies, procedures, rules and regulations of <br />the police department. <br />1. Periodically reviews department policy to see that it meets <br />current standards of law enforcement. <br />2. Formulate policy and procedures to ensure effective and <br />efficient operation of the police department. <br />3. Review policies to ensure that they meet criteria set by the <br />MN POST Board. <br />E. Represents the Chief and the department at various meetings and <br />civic functions. <br />1. Attend public speaking engagements as directed by the <br />Chief. <br />2. Coordinate public relation programs for the department. <br />3. Represent the City and department in meetings and on <br />commissions and boards in the absence of the Police Chief. <br />F. Supervise the sergeants' responsibilities. <br />1. Make shift assignments for sergeants. <br />2. Complete evaluations of the sergeants. <br />3. Monitor interaction between the sergeants and the patrol <br />division. <br />G. Perform other duties as assigned at the verbal or written directions <br />of the Police Chief and/or the City Administrator. <br />1.
