CITY OF RAMSEY POSITION ANALYSIS <br /> <br />POSITION TITLE: Day Captain <br />DEPARTMENT: Fire Department <br /> <br />POSITION TITLE OF <br />IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Fire Chief <br /> <br />(2/90) <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: <br /> <br />The Day Captain is responsible for the supervision and administration of a unit of firefighters, <br />working to improve the unit's performance, conduct, morale, and attendance. The Day Captain <br />receives direction from the Fire Chief and provides that Chief with reports on his/her unit <br />problems. On an emergency scene the Day Captain will direct his/her unit or crew of <br />firefighters to perform tasks as assigned by an officer in charge. The Day Captain may assume <br />command of an emergency scene until relieved by an officer of higher rank or until completion <br />of duties. <br /> <br />SPECIFIC <br /> <br />A. <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />C. <br /> <br />D. <br /> <br /> RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> <br />To assist the Fire Chief in the administration of the entire Fire Department. <br /> <br />To respond to all alarms of fire and such other emergencies as possible. <br /> <br />To monitor and assess a probationary firefighters' progress and development. <br /> <br />To help supervise the training and instruction of the members of the department in all <br />subjects covered at drills. <br /> <br />Participate in community relations programs. <br /> <br />Perform related work as apparent or required. <br /> <br />DAILY TASKS RELATED TO SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> <br />A. To assist the Fire Chief in the administration of the entire Fire Department. <br /> <br />Assist the Fire Chief in the discharge of their duties. In the even of the absence of <br />the Fire Chief, the Day Captain shall assume the Chief's duties and <br />responsibilities. <br /> <br /> <br />
