Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION # <br />CONSIDER A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT THE RESIGNATION <br />OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR, APPOINT THE FIRE CHIEF <br />TO AN INTERIM ASSIGNMENT FOR UP TO 3-MONTHS, APPOINT THE <br />CITY ENGINEER ON AN ONGOING BASIS, AUTHORIZE A RECRUITMENT <br />PROCESS AND TO AUTHORIZE THE RESTRUCTURE OF THE PUBLIC <br />WORKS DEPARTMENT <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Brian Olson, the Public Works Director submitted a letter of <br />resignation on April 18, 2012; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Olson's last day with the City will be May 15, 2012; and <br />WHEREAS, staff recommends accepting Mr. Olson's resignation; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean Kapler, the city's current Fire Chief previously served as the <br />city's Public Works Director/Fire Chief until 2006; and <br />WHEREAS, Tim Himmer, the city's current City Engineer works closely with <br />Mr. Olson and is very familiar with the Engineering side of operations; and <br />WHEREAS, staff recommends that Fire Chief Kapler oversee the following <br />divisions within Public Works on an interim basis for up to 3-months: Building <br />Maintenance, Parks, Streets, and Utilities; and <br />WHEREAS, staff recommends that City Engineer Himmer oversee the <br />Engineering Division on an ongoing basis; and <br />WHEREAS, staff recommends conducting an internal and/or external <br />recruitment process to appoint a candidate to oversee the operations side of the Public <br />Works Building Maintenance, Parks, Streets, and the Utilities divisions; and <br />WHEREAS, staff recommends restructuring the Public Works Department into <br />two separate areas such as Engineering will be led by City Engineer Himmer and the <br />operations side of Public Works, including Building Maintenance, Parks, Streets, and the <br />Utilities divisions will be led by the individual promoted or hired during the recruitment <br />process. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />Motion to approve resolution 12-05-XXX confirming the recommendation of the <br />Personnel Committee to do the following: <br />
