MAYOR AND COUNCIL INPUT

a) Transmittal From Senator Dave Durenberger

Mayor Reimann noted receiving a letter from Senator Dave Durenberger thanking the City
for providing him with a copy of Ramsey's resolution regarding 1990 National Community
Development Week.

b) Optical Scan Units For Voting

Councilmember Cich referred to Commissioner Haas Steffen's letter dated April 19, 1990
and reiterated his disappointment in the County's plan to convert to optical scan voting
machines now rather than waiting until 1992 as originally planned.

Mayor Reimann and Mr. Hartley indicated that more information regarding this issue is
being gathered and will be presented to City Council in the near future.

c) Arbor Day

Mayor Reimann noted receiving a letter from Anoka County indicating that an Arbor Day
ceremony will be held at the Anoka County Fairgrounds on May 5, 1990.

d) Animal Control Costs

Councilmember Peterson requested that City Staff provide City Council with a report on
animal control costs in the City of Ramsey at the next regular City Council meeting.

e) Street Improvement Projects

Councilmember Peterson requested that in the future, feasibility studies for street
improvement projects include the cost and option for higher levels of ditch and boulevard
restoration.

Mr. Raatikka noted that in years past, high levels of restoration were included in the
improvement projects but property owners did not follow up with boulevard maintenance
and grass eventually died. It was determined at that time to reduce the cost of improvement
projects and eliminate high levels of restoration.

It was determined that the City's policy regarding the level of restoration to be included in
street improvement projects should be an item for discussion at the City Council meeting on
May 8, 1990.

f) Issues For Future Council Discussion

Councilmember DeLuca requested that the following items be placed on a subsequent
Council agenda for discussion:

1)

Councilmembers to schedule a time to accompany a patrol officer on an
evening shift during school summer vacation.

2) Proposed modifications to Police Deparmaent reporting system.

3) Review ordinances for validity with respect to all areas of Ramsey.

City Council/April 24, 1990
