It is disconcerting to see deer (we have had as many as 11 at one time)
feasting on our plants. And it is equally disconcerting to roam through the
gardens and find more predation has happened during the night.
Deer are creatures of habit. They will continue to go to the same places to
feed unless discouraged. I have not observed the neighbor feeding deer as
the underbrush between our houses is too dense. But, if he is feeding the
deer, it causes a costly problem for us and everyone else as the deer come
through our property to get to his and then continue on their normal feeding
route.
At the very least, there should be an ordinance against feeding deer or
providing salt licks. When we moved here in 1984, the area was considered
rural and the deer were few and far between. Now they are plentiful —
overly so.
This is not a problem isolated to Ramsey as I continue to read reports
about too many deer in the entire metro area. If all communities got
together and passed similar regulations prohibiting, attracting deer and did
regular harvests of the overpopulation, maybe the problem would get
resolved.
.
