PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> <br />Much of the City is served by individual on-site septic systems and individual private wells. <br />The City has started extending municipal water and sanitary sewer in the urban areas of the <br />City. There are currently over 270 customers using the municipal water and sanitary sewer. <br />This area is located in the southeastern corner of the City. <br /> <br />MUNICIPAL WATER <br /> <br />The City has a 500,000 gallon storage facility. There are currently over 270 customers that <br />are being served by the municipal water system. The City has two wells that tap the Ironton- <br />Galesville aquifer. The City is actively expanding the municipal water system within the Urban <br />area. <br /> <br />SANITARY SEWER <br /> <br />There are currently over 270 customers being served by sanitary sewer, however the City is <br />actively expanding the sanitary sewer system within the Urban area. The sewer system is <br />designed for one million gallons per day. The sewer is treated by the Metropolitan Waste <br />Control Commission. There are two metropolitan interceptors located in Ramsey. <br /> <br />STORM WATER DRAINAGE <br /> <br />There are two storm drainage districts in Ramsey: one drains into the Mississippi River and <br />the other into the Rum River. Ramsey has a comprehensive storm drainage plan and water <br />management plan. Ramsey is a member of the Lower Rum River Watershed District. <br /> <br />MEDIA SERVICES <br /> <br />The daily papers are the Star-Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press-Dispatch. There are 23- <br />AM and 25-FM radio stations that are receptable to the City. There are six television stations <br />that are receptable to the City area and that does not include cable. North Central <br />Telecommunications is the area cable company. Cable adds an additional 42 stations; four of <br />those stations are public access stations. <br /> <br />RECREATION <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey owns 34 parks and recreation facilities which total 371.1 acres. Of the 34 <br />facilities, 16 are developed and the remaining 18 are undeveloped. There are three parks in the <br />City that are owned by the County and the State. Those three parks and recreation facilities total <br />803.5 acres. The City has a Park and Recreation Commission which is an advisory body to the <br />City Council. One of the functions of this Commission is to periodically review and update the <br />City's Comprehensive Park and Open Space Plan to determine development limitations, <br />potentials and plans for all the parks. The City of Ramsey exceeds the national standard of 1 - <br />1.5 acres of recreational open space per 100 residents. The City's vast amount of recreational <br />space allows for 10.5 acres per 100 residents of recreational land. These figures exclude the <br />Rum River Hills Golf Club, Boy Scout Camp, St. Anthony Gun Club, privately owned recreational <br />facilities, Wayside Park, Foster Island Park, Ramsey Elementary School, and other publicly <br />owned recreational facilities. <br />The City has 15 softball diamonds, eight baseball diamonds, six tennis courts, five outdoor <br />hockey rinks and skating areas, and 8 soccer fields. Play equipment can be found in most of the <br />City's parks. Rum River Hills Golf Club offers a challenging 18 hole golf course which is open <br />to the public. <br /> <br /> <br />
