The size of Ramsey's professional and managerial labor force is comparable to other metropolitan communities of similar size and demographics. A reason for the Iow percentage of manual labor, transportation and assemblers in the Ramsey work force compared to the Metro area work force could be that this segment of the population was less likely to fill out this survey. Also, this segment of the work force only represents 12.9 percent of the total workers in the community. The percentage increase in the technical work force over the last 10 years can be partially explained by the metropolitan and nationwide increase in high technology industries. *Projections to 1990 done by Minnesota Department of Jobs and Training (Publication date- April, 1986). UNEMPLOYMENT The Metropolitan area has one of the lowest unemployment rates of comparable cities in the nation. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the Metro area had an unemployment rate of 6.3% in the second half of 1982. The unemployment rate continued to drop to 4.5% in 1985. Ramsey's unemployment rate in 1980 was reported by the U. S. Census Bureau to be 6.15% for males and 5.23% for females. However, by 1985 the average combined unemployment had declined to 4.9 %.
