Case #2

r
~
.

PRESENTATION BY CITY ASSESSOR ON COMMERCIAL PROPERTY TAX
By: James Grornberg, Project Manager

Background:

The Economic Development Commission members have indicated an interest and concern about
property taxes in the City of Ramsey. These concerns have led the City staff to arrange for the
City Assessor to present the policy concerning property taxes and to answer any questions that the
Economic Development Commissioners may have.

One concern is that businesses pay much more in taxes than households yet seem to receive fewer
benefits for their tax dollar.

Commercial taxes in the City of Ramsey appear to be greater then the surrounding communities.
Taxes on subdivided property are increased even if the property is not developed.
How are the taxes on commercial property calculated.

Review Checklist

Project Manager James Gromberg
City Assessor John Keefe

EDC: 12-12-90

.3
