PROJECT ACTMTY <br /> <br />A. Briefly describe the project <br /> <br /> 1. Project Location: RISE has locations in Sprinq Lake <br />Park, northern Hennepin and northern Ramsey Counties. Expansion <br />is planned for sites in Sprinq Lake Park and northern Hennepin <br />County on Central Avenue. RISE serves individuals from a wide <br /> <br />g¢oqraphic area in the metropolitan area ~see attached Geoqraphic <br />Distribution sheet]. <br /> <br /> 2. Project Activities: Durinq the past three vearsj RISE <br />has worked closely with communitV representatives to plan for <br />more proqrams and services, and the development of traininq and <br />empl.o~ent opportunities for persons'With disabilities. A!thouqh <br />RISE has been qrowina at over 30% Der year for the past five <br />years, current RISE space is unable to accommodate the demand. <br />There are no other comparable facilities or orqanizations serving <br /> <br />Anoka, northern Henneoin and northern Ramsev counties. To meet <br /> <br />this need, RISE oroooses to e×oand present facilities in Anoka <br /> <br />county7 and purchase or construct new facilities in Hennepin <br /> <br />County. <br /> <br /> 3. Detail the n~her of persons benefitting: In 1987, <br />RISE provided traininq, emo!ovment and counse!ino se~,ices for <br />1,273 persons with disabilities. RISE is exoeriencinc an <br /> <br />increased demand and DroSec%s the number se~ved to increase to <br /> <br />1,492 in 1988 and to over 1,850 by 1993. <br /> <br /> 4. How are they benefitting? R~SE is <br />private, nonorofit corporation established in 1971 to meet the <br /> <br />vocational rehabilitation needs of individuals with mental and <br /> <br />physical disabilities in Anoka, northern Ramsev and northern <br />Henneoin counties. RISE se_~ves oeoo!e with disabilities bv <br /> <br />providin~ meaningful work which provides income, a sense of <br />self-worth and connections with others in the community. RISE <br /> <br />pays a commensurate wa~e based on industry standards, orovidino <br />a chance for oeop!e with disabilities to better their standard of <br />!ivinc. (see attached execu%ive summary) <br /> <br /> 5. How many persons are low income? Ail of the <br />individuals RiSE se_~ves are low income: 1,273 in 1987 and a <br />projected I,~2 in 1988. <br /> <br /> <br />
