ADOPT RESOLUTION ENTERING INTO AN <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />TO RECEIVE PRELIMINARY BREATH TESTER (PBT) <br />By: Mike Auspos, Police Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The State of Minnesota recently informed police agencies that they would provide Preliminary <br />Breath Testers (PBT's) free of charge to a limited numb,~r of <br /> _ ,..,,,y and County departments. Our <br />department made application for one and is now being considered as a recipient. In order to <br />receive the device which is used for DU! enforcement, the City must adopt a resolution to enter <br />into an agreement with the State for the device. There is no cost factor Io the City other than <br />replace the batleries and mouthpieces which are nominal costs. We have already purchased one. <br />and this additional PBT will allow us to have one in each of two squad cars. <br /> <br />Enclosed for your information is a letter from Mr. Lowell Van Berkom of the State of Minnesota <br />Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the proposed agreement, and proposed resolution. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Adopt Resolution #89-02- entering into an agreement with the State of Minnesota <br />to receive Preliminary Breath Tester (PBT). <br /> <br />Review Checklist: <br /> <br />City Administrator , ~,v Chief of Police X <br />Cily Attorney Finance Officer <br />City Engineer Public Works Superintendent <br />Community Developmen: Director Other <br /> <br /> <br />
