Banwart, Community Development Director

Difference of 1989 CDBG Funds between Cities of
Ramsey and Anoka

Pursuant to your request on February 28, 1989 regarding the difference
of 1989 CDBG fund allocation between City of Ramsey and City of
Anoka, the following information is offered.

According to JoAnn O. Wright, Community Development l~([anager,
County of Anoka, there are three (3) variables that are used to
determine the CDBG allocation. These variable are: J'

Population
Age of Housing
Poverty Level

The poverty variable is double-weighted. The City of Anoka currently
has approximately 16,000 people while Ramsey has 12,000. The
average age of housing in the City of Anoka is considerably older than
that of l%amsey. And finally, the City of Anoka has a high population of
senior citizens and renters; both of which tend to have lower incomes.
For these reasons, the City ofAnoka ~ill receive $135,300 while the City
of t~amsey will receive $26,011.

MSB:ccr
