CASE

DISCUSS THE NEED FOR
AMUSEMENT CENTER REGULATIONS
By: Dave Hadley, City Administrator

Background:

Some time ago, the City Council was involved in licensing specific amusement centers within the
City of Ramsey and the question was raised "Do we need to be regulating businesses of this type
when we do not regulate other businesses?" It was agreed that the City Council would pick up
this issue again (lime permitling) to evaluate the need for such regulation. Although the
following list is not complete, it certainly represents the bulk of the businesses where special
purpose regulations exist in the City Code of t.~e City o! Ramsey:

-Peddlers and solicitors
-Amusement centers '
-Billiard tables ~ ~.1~.¢,/1'~ ~/
-Intoxicating liquors ~
-Non-inloxicaling liquors
-Multiple dwellings
-Drive-in theaters
-Golf courses and driving ranges
-Solid wasle disposing
-Christmas tree lots
-Cigarette sales
-Contractors
-Gasoline sales
-Motor vehicle sales, repair, and/or rental
-Music festivals

There are, however, a wide variety of our laws that do affect in a general way all businesses in
our community.

Enclosed is a copy of the City Code that relates to amusement centers.

Recommendation:

Council action will be to discuss the need for special regulations for amusement centers.

Recommendation:

City Administrator
City Attorney
City Engineer
Community Development Director

· .X Chief of Police X
X Finance Officer
Public Works Supervisor
Other
