Hakanson
Anderson
Assoc.,Inc.

Engineers, Surveyors &
Landscape Architects

July 20, 1989

Honorable Mayor & City Council
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd.
Ramsey, MN 55303

Preliminary Study
Ute Street Paving

Dear Council Members:

In accordance with your request at your July 11,
meeting, we have made a brief study to determine
magnitude of the above referenced project.

1989 Council
the general

An inspection of the street revealed that the existing street
consists of a 16' - 22' wide street with a sand surface. Ditches
in the area were practically non-existent. The half section map
indicates that the existing right of way is only 30 feet.

To minimize the costs of the grading and restoration and right-of-
way acquisition, we would not recommend widening the streets to 31
feet as shown on the City's Standard Suburban Street Section. We
would, however, recommend that the streets be paved at a width of
24 feet with a one foot berm on each side of the street to control
runoff and a cul-de-sac 60 feet in diameter on the north end. We
have estimated the cost of such streets to be $26,000, which would
include four inches of Class 5 gravel and 2 inches of bituminous.
The estimated cost did not include right of way acquisition,
however, it is proposed that the residences would provide an
additional 10 feet on each side of the street.

Based on current street assessment policy, the project would be
financed by assessing the abutting property on a front foot or unit
basis. The following table is a summary of unit costs and annual
unit costs for the project based on amortization of the project at
9% over a period of 10 years.

Table I - Summary of Costs
Ute Street

Total Cost
Total Units
Cost per Unit
Annual Unit Cost - 10 Years

$26,000
10
$ 2,600
$ 405.08

222 Monroe Street
Anoka, Minnesota 55303

612/4Z7-5860

Fax 612/427-3401

Eugene
James M.
