TABLE II
Required Soil Treatment Area in Square Feet
of Trench Bottom

Percolation
rate in min-
utes per inch

Per Gallon
of Sewage Flow
per day

Depth of Filter Material Below
Distribution pipe (c)

Faster Than
0. i (d)
0.1 to 5(e)
6 to 15
16 to 30
31 to 45
46 to 60
61-120 (e)

6" 12" 18" 24"

Special Soil Treatment Required. The required treatment area may
be reduced, for trenches only, by the following
percentages: Twenty per cent (20%) for twelve (12)
inches of filter materials below the distribution
pipe; thirty-four per cent (34%) for eighteen (18)
inches; and forty per cent (40%) for twenty-four (24)
inches. The filter material shall completely encase
the disposal pipes to a depth of at least two (2) inches.

Soil is unsuitable for standard system if percolation
rate is less than one tenth (0.1) minute per inch.

Special requirements for treatment units for problem
soils with this percolation range. For soils having
more than 50 percent of very fine sand by weight, plus
fine sand having a particle size range of 0.05
millimeters (sieve size 270) to 0.25 millimeters (sieve
size 60), the required soil treatment area is 1.67
square feet per gallon of sewage flow per day.

Location

1. On slopes in excess of twelve per cent (12%), the soil
profile shall be carefully evaluated in the location of the
proposed soil treatment area and downslope to identify the presence
