for the long term. Now the task is to do so in such a way that the impact on tax dollars is
minimized.

~HORT TERM OPTIONS

The enclosed expansion space analysis atlempts to summarize the space available in existing
buildings within the City of Ramsey. As you can see, there are a wide variety of options and
there is space available. After reviewing this information, it would appear that there are two
practical solutions to our short term space needs:

1)

The CAPCO Building is well suited for use as a police station with ample space for
storage and ample space for meeting rooms. If the City were to purchase this
facility, the secondary use is highly attractive for economic development
purposes once alternative space is made available (presumably at the City Hall
location).

2)

The Ramsey Medical Center is located nearby and, although finished space is
limited, the engineering function could operate out of those quarters with minor
lease hold improvements.

To this point, Staff has only gone so far as collecting information and no negotiating over price
or improvements has taken place. Following discussion, the Council may wish to direct Staff to
further investigate and/or negotiate terms for available space.

Council Action:

Discussion

Review Checklist:

City Administrator .X.
City Attorney
City Engineer ~'
Community Development Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Planning & Zoning Comm.
Park & Recreation Comm.

X
