CASE

SNOWPLOWING AT GATEWAY NORTH INDUSTRIAL AIRPORT
By: Merle Mevissen, Public Works Supervisor

Background:

In November of 1982, the Street Department was directed by the Ramsey City Council to plow
snow at the Gateway North Industrial Airport. This was to be done after all City streets were
plowed. This arrangement did not work out very well for the airport because during heavy snow
falls or windy conditions, it would take two or three days for us to get them. At times, they would
try to plow with their equipment but it was a bigger job than their equipment could withstand. It
takes a big snowplow truck or a road grader to do the job. It cannot be done with a pick-up truck
or a jeep.

Enclosed for your information are Economic Development Commission and City Council meeting
minutes regarding this issue.

Recommendation:

I would prefer not to get involved with plowing the airport, but if we do they should be billed at
the current rate for the equipment used.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator X
City Attorney
City Engineer
Community Development Director
Public Works Supernal. sot X

/jmt

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Planning & Zoning Commission
Park & Recreation Commission

//¥
