CASE <br /> <br /> GOALS FOR 1990 AND BEYOND <br />By: David R. Itartley, City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />In 1989, the Cit.,,' Council and Department Heads developed specific objectives for 1989 during a <br />strategic planning workshop. Those objectives have served as guidance for not only the City staff <br />but also the City Council as it has dealt with a wide variety of issues facing the City. Those <br />objectives are included for reference. As I look back on those objectives, I recognize that they <br />were mostly centered along the lines of the organization's internal relations and how we conduct <br />business. From my observation, it appears that the City Council and staff have done a good job at <br />improving upon "the way we do business". <br /> <br />For ] 990 and beyond,' we need to not only look at how we do business but whet b~sinc~ss w,¢ do. <br />To make those decisions I believe that again, a strategic planning workshop would be very <br />beneficial to the City Council and staff. Further, I believe that the assistance of an outside <br />facilitator would make the time spent at a workshop setting more beneficial and permit all parties <br />including myself to be a part of the strategic planning workshop as a participant. <br /> <br />During our first regular meeting in January 1990, we should attempt to accomplish the following: <br /> <br />Agree on whether or not to have a strategic planning workshop. If a workshop is <br />to be held, what time of day or night; weekday or weekend that the workshop <br />would be preferred. <br /> <br />Decide on whether or not to use an outside facilitator to assist in the strategic <br />planning workshop. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Prepare for the 90's and the strategic planning workshop by completing the list of <br />opportunities for the 90's and agreeing upon what we hope to accomplish with the <br />strategic planning workshop. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Plan for 1990's and beyond. <br /> <br />Review Checklist: <br /> <br />City Administrator X <br />City Attorney .
