CASE

FULL-TIME DATA ENTRY CLERK FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT
By: Mike Auspos, Chief of Police

Background:

Linda Aaseby, Data Entry Clerk for the Police Department, has worked for the past year in a part-
time capacity, shared with the Finance Department. The Finance Department is now filling a
budgeted (1990) position which will eliminate the need for a Data Entry Clerk part-time in that
department. The Police Department, with the addition ultimately of two officers and the creation of
a detective position will be expanding its data entry/narrative report entry need. This will be
facilitated by having the original computer system used entirely by the police for records and
planning. This should come about in mid-1990.

Observations:

There is now and will be further need for a full-time person in the Police Department to perform
data entry. This position has not been budgeted for 1990, however, over half of the unbudgeted
amount for the remainder of 1990 may be available in the Police personnel budget depending on
the entry level rate of pay for the second new officer. There are also funds available from the
budgeted amount for the personnel needs in the proposed Engineering Department for 1990.

Recommendation:

Motion to adopt Resolution g90-03- approving the addition of a full-time Data Entry Clerk for
Police Department and authorizing staff to advertise/post for said position.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator
City Attomey
City Engineer
Community Development Director
Public Works Supervisor

· X Chief of Police .X.
Finance Officer X
Planning & Zoning Commission
Park & Recreation Commission
