14.1 <br /> <br />14.2 <br /> <br />14.3 <br /> <br />14.4 <br /> <br />14.5 <br /> <br />14.6 <br /> <br />ARTICLE XIV <br />SICK LF~VE <br /> <br />Every probationary and permanent Employee is entitled to sick leave with <br />pay at the rate of i day for each calendar month of full-time service or major <br />fraction thereof. Sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum of 120 days <br />and may be granted in units of not less than 2 hours or 1/4 work day. <br />Unused sick leave in excess of 120 days at the end of a calendar year <br />(January 1st) shall be converted to vacation at a rate of one hour vacation for <br />each two hours of sick leave in excess of 120 days. Any employee <br />terminating employment or any employee terminated shall be paid for <br />one-third of any unused sick leave at time of termination at his/her current <br />rate of pay. <br /> <br />Sick leave may be granted when the Employee is unable to perform work <br />duties due to illness, disability, the necessity for medical, dental or <br />chiropractic care, childbirth or exposure to contagious disease where such <br />exposure may endanger the health of others with whom the Employee <br />would come in contact in the course of performing work duties. Sick leave <br />may also be granted for a maximum of three (3) days in the case of death or <br />serious illness in the Employee's immediate family. <br /> <br />To be eligible for sick leave with pay, an Employee shall: <br /> <br />1) report as soon as possible to his/her department head the reason for <br /> his/her absence; <br /> <br />2) keep his/her department head informed of his/her condition if the <br /> absence is of more than three (3) days duration; and <br /> <br />3) submit a medical certificate for any absence if required by the <br /> administrator or Chief of Police. <br /> <br />Using or claiming sick leave for a purpose not authorized by Article 14.2 <br />shall be cause for disciplinary action. <br /> <br />For the purpose of accumulating additional vacation or sick leave, an <br />Employee using earned vacation leave or sick leave is considered to be <br />working. <br /> <br />During the probationary period following an original appointment, an <br />Employee is not entitled to sick leave or vacation leave. After the end of the <br />probationary period, an Employee is entitled to sick leave and vacation leave <br />accrued from the start of the probationary employment. <br /> <br />1989-90 LELS Agreement (June 1, 1990 Drain) Page 16 <br /> <br /> <br />
