Entry of the airport into the National System Plan indicates <br />that the airport is a facility with a service level to be of <br />national interest. Only about one in four airports qualifies for <br />inclusion into the national system plan. The Environmental <br />Assessment indicates that the airport can be improved without <br />significant impacts to the co~unityand that the economic benefits <br />outweigh the costs associated with the improvements. Numerous <br />public informational meetings and public hearings have been held <br />over the course of these studies. The Airport Commission has <br />recommended to the City Council that it proceed with acquisition <br />and improvement of Gateway North. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recognizes the diversity of views on the City Council and <br />remains neutral regarding the proposed improvement program for <br />Gateway North Industrial Airport. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to approve/not approve proceeding with the acquisition and <br />improvement of Gateway North Industrial Airport based on the <br />Airport Layout Plan approved October 8, 1985 (single runway <br />concept). <br /> <br /> <br />
