a. When welding is done in an approved fabricator's shop. <br />b. When approved by the building official, single -pass fillet weld <br />when stressed to less than 50 percent of allowable stresses and <br />floor and roof deck welding and welded studs when used for <br />structural diaphragm or composite systems may have periodic <br />inspections in accordance with the code. For periodic inspection, <br />the inspector shall check qualifications of welders at the start of <br />work and then make final inspection of all welds for compliance <br />prior to completion of welding. <br />F. High -Strength Bolting: During all bolt installations and tightening operations. <br />1. Exceptions: <br />a. The special inspector need not be present during the entire <br />installation and tightening operation, provided he has: <br />1) Inspected the surfaces and bolt type for conformance to <br />plans and specifications prior to star of bolting. <br />2) And will, upon completion of all bolting, verify the <br />minimum specified bolt tension for 10 percent of the bolts <br />for each connection with a minimum of two bolts per <br />connection. <br />b. In bearing -type connections when threads are not required by <br />design to be excluded from the shear plane, inspection prior to or <br />during installation will not be required. <br />G. Structural masonry: During preparation of masonry wall prisms, sampling and <br />placing of all masonry units, placement of reinforcement, inspection of grout <br />space, immediately prior to closing of cleanouts, and during all grouting <br />operations. <br />1. Exceptions: <br />a. Special inspection need not be provided when design stresses <br />have been adjusted to permit noncontinuous inspection. <br />b. For hollow -unit masonry where the f'm is not more than 1,500 psi <br />for concrete units special inspection for placing of units may be <br />performed on a periodic basis. <br />3.8 WAIVER OF INSPECTION AND/OR TESTS <br />A. Specified inspections and/or tests may be waived only by the specific approval <br />of the Architect, and such waivers will be expected to result a credit to the Owner <br />equal to normal cost of such inspection and/or test. <br />01410-5 <br />
