The referendum <br />proposal is for 12% of tax capacity to cover a period of six years. <br /> <br />After a period of significant program reductions, lower than average salary <br />settlements, and lack of immediate success with equity funding at the state <br />level, the district has little alternative other than to ask our local <br />taxpayers to help support the operating costs of the school district through a <br />levy referendum. This referendum will be directed at program improvement <br />through: <br /> <br />Improved teacher-pupil ratios to address class size <br />"At Risk" programs <br />Restoration of programs that have been reduced <br />Salary equity for employees <br /> <br />By law, the November general election date is the only time available for an <br />excess levy vote. <br /> <br />The decision of the School Board was made after'reviewing data provided by a <br />community survey done this summer by Decision Resources, Inc. <br /> <br />Please share this information with the staff and elected officials of your <br />city. <br /> <br />Sincerely yours, <br /> <br />Robert Gander <br />Interim Superintendent <br /> <br />RG/rg/db/NBI-DEB <br /> <br />"Every Student Will Learn" <br /> <br /> <br />
